Description
Wuyi Smoked Pine is a bold black tea, perfect for cold winter mornings. It is actually a type of Lapsang souchong, a kind of Chinese black tea, one of the earliest black teas to be produced. It was first developed in the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian Province during the Qing dynasty, likely in the 17th century.
The story goes that when a passing army came to bring Fujian under the rule of the Manchurian government, tea production was delayed. To keep the harvested tea from rotting, farmers dried it over pinewood fires. This gave it a strong, smoky flavor.
Our Wuyi Smoked Pine is processed in that traditional way. After being withered over the fire, it is placed into barrels to intensify the aroma, and finally the leaves are placed again into flat wicker baskets over smoky pine fires, imparting the characteristically rich aroma and flavor.
Reminiscent of cozy days spent by the fire, Wuyi Smoked Pine is a unique addition to any tea cabinet. It can also help add a smokey note to many recipes, for instance a salmon rub or marinade, or for making hard-boiled tea eggs. Or try adding some of the leaf to another tea such as earl grey for a unique blend of your own making. Get creative and have some fun!
